Thank you Healthy Cities Volunteers!

On Tuesday, May 10, Healthy Cities Tutoring held its 20th annual Volunteer Recognition Reception to celebrate and honor our 336 volunteers who provided tutoring to 393 students in 7 schools in San Carlos and 3 schools in Redwood City this year. The recognition event was held at the San Carlos City Hall Council Chambers and students, parents, teachers and the broader community all came to thank the tutors for their service.

The reception began with opening remarks from San Carlos Mayor Cameron Johnson and San Carlos School Board Board President Kathleen Farley. Mayor Johnson spoke fondly of having his own inspiration and role models in his life and the importance of having someone who took the time to listen and make him feel better about himself and how they still have an impact on his decision-making and the way he lives his life today. President Farley also thanked the tutors for their dedication and the impact that HCT has made for children and families in our community.

Additional speakers at the event included John Triska, principal at Brittan Acres, who spoke about the difference that the Healthy Cities Tutoring program has had at his school. A single parent who has a child in the program talked about http://nosubhealth.com/product/flomax/ having the support of a Healthy Cities tutor to help her son and a volunteer tutor with his 8th grade student spoke about the connection they made over the past years. And lastly, a 4th grade student at Clifford School thanked her tutor for helping her to succeed in school.
